President Gibbs pays courtesy visit to President of Parliament

MARIGOT--President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs was received by President of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the morning and then by Prime Minister (PM) of St. Maarten William Marlin, later in the day.

Gibbs had indicated following his inauguration that he wanted to establish from the beginning close relations with the southern part of the island.

For his first visit to the Parliament of St. Maarten, the President was able to exchange with Wescot-Williams the respective roles of French and Dutch-side institutions and opportunities for cooperation in this area.

The President then met PM Marlin who welcomed him in his office in the new Government Building in Philipsburg. The two officials agreed on the need to quickly implement a wider cooperation between the two parts of the island.

Later in the day, Gibbs attended the national observance of the Netherlands’ Memorial Day, made in homage to civilian casualties and soldiers of wars affecting the Kingdom, during which he was invited to place a bouquet of flowers.
