ST. EUSTATIUS--A pre-Mother’s Day party is being held on the island for all the senior citizen mothers.

The party will be held at the William and Christine Flanders Community Centre located on Rosemary Lane, on Tuesday, May 8, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm.

The organisers are inviting all senior citizen mothers to come out and have a great time. The event will be hosted by “Lady of Culture” Marcella Gibbs-Marsdin, who has made sure over many years that the Statia traditions have lived on.

These cultural activities include carolling, steelpan, kite-flying, the July 1 tradition of putting tree branches from the July tree on the gates of the homes on the island; as well as bringing comfort to families when they have lost a loved one. She also organises various events yearly, while actively participating and engaging the community to uphold the norms, values and traditions of Statia. She holds special workshops for the island’s children, to share with them the many customs handed down to them by their ancestors.
