Police on the lookout for tinted car windows

PHILIPSBURG--Prosecutor’s Office and St. Maarten Police Force representatives met on Monday to discuss a joint clampdown on dark tinted vehicle windows, to be combined with intensive monitoring for non-payment of the 2017 road tax.

Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are in accordance with the law on this matter.

This legislation includes, among other things, that the windshield and the windows of the driver and front passenger may be tinted only up to 15 per cent. The rear windows may be darker tinted, provided that side mirrors are arranged on both sides of the vehicle.

Motorists who are in violation of the legislation will be fined and will have to remove the tint in the presence of police officers.
