PHILIPSBURG--Colleagues of St. Maarten Police Force attended a workshop hosted by the Teen and Police Service (TAPS) Academy in Houston, Texas, conducted by TAPS Academy co- founder Everett Penn. The group of four left the island last week Thursday.

TAPS Academy is an 11-week programme primarily designed for “at-risk youth” where students partner with mentor officers to discuss issues, including bullying, anger management, avoidance or hallway life, drug usage, conflict management and other youth- and law enforcement-focused topics.

The training commenced on Friday, February 24, and will end on Thursday, March 2. Attending the training are Inspector Ethelwoldus Josepha and Officers Angelo Blijden, Angelina Henson and Jeward Martis.

After the completion of the training, the intention is for this group to begin the process to start this programme in St. Maarten later this year.
