Peridot recognition

Idaline “Jiji” Martina (second left) was recognised on the occasion of International Women’s Day by Peridot Foundation for breaking barriers in a male dominated world. Foundation President Gracita Arrindell (right) presented her with a token of recognition at an event held in Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino. Martina was trained in road construction by her late father “Baby” Martina and she has been actively contributing to the community since 1983. Trenching and cable work placements have become second nature to her, said Arrindell. “Jiji has an impeccable skill set in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, upholstery and mechanical work, thus far surpassing the well-earned title of field supervisor. In all, truly a lady who has been a trailblazer literally and figuratively at the forefront at closing the gender gap in this field of work in St. Maarten.
