Parliament vets credentials of incoming MPs today

PHILIPSBURG--Parliament will examine the credentials and admission of several new Members of Parliament (MPs) during an urgent plenary public session today, Wednesday, at 11:00am.

A total of four new MPs are expected to sit in Parliament due to three National Alliance (NA) MPs taking up positions as ministers (Silveria Jacobs, Ardwell Irion and Egbert Jurendy Doran) and due to the resignation of St. Maarten Christian Party (SMCP) MP Claude “Chacho” Peterson to pave the way for former caretaker Prime Minister Wycliffe Smith to return to Parliament as an MP.

Next in line on NA’s list at the 2018 elections for the post of MPs are former MP and former Chairperson of Parliament Rodolphe Samuel, who was the sixth highest vote-getter on the party’s slate at the last election; Anna Richardson, the seventh highest vote-getter and Ludmila Duncan, the eighth highest vote-getter.

The public can follow the parliamentary deliberations in person at the House of Parliament located across from the Courthouse in Philipsburg.

The session will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 115, 107.9, 98.1FM,

www.sxmparliament.org and Parliament’s Facebook page: Parliament of Sint Maarten.
