PHILIPSBURG--Parliament has forwarded the draft kingdom law for the establishment of a dispute regulation for the Dutch Kingdom to Government. Members of Parliament (MPs) reviewed the draft law on Friday afternoon.
The draft law was put together by the representatives of the three Dutch Caribbean countries – St. Maarten, Aruba and Curaçao. This is a result of ongoing discussion about the need for such an independent committee to iron out disputes between countries comprising the Kingdom.
The draft law will now be vetted by Government and together with Aruba and Curaçao it will be forwarded to Dutch Minister for Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk.
Ultimately, it is hoped that the law will be tabled in the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. The draft law was also discussed in the Parliaments of Curaçao and Aruba.
