MAHO--More than 200 persons converged at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino on Wednesday for the opening of the two-day Caribbean Association of Banks (CAB) 46th Conference themed: “Shaping a New Era in Caribbean Banking”.
As part of the opening ceremony, two memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed – one between the Bankers Association of St. Maarten and CAB and the other between the Jamaica Bankers Association and CAB. The latter has MOUs with more than a dozen banker associations in the region. The CAB Cares corporate social responsibility campaign was also launched, with the presentation of a US $3,000 cheque to the Nature Foundation of St. Maarten. The contribution will go towards tree planting, as the organisation seeks to replenish some of the tress destroyed by the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017.
Over 200 delegates, presenters and sponsors were treated to a colourful cultural presentation, as well as a drum performance by Generation New Status STM band.
This is the first time the CAB Conference, the region’s leading gathering of banking and financial service professionals, is being held in St. Maarten. During the conference, delegates heard from industry leaders in technology and finance, with a heavy focus on financial technology, innovation and investment.
Governor Eugene Holiday delivered the keynote address at the conference, which ends today. A number of delegates are expected to make a day trip to Anguilla over the weekend.
