Only 6 registered parties can postulate on Oct. 2

PHILIPSBURG--Only parties that are registered at the Electoral Council can postulate themselves on Nomination Day on October 2.

  According to the Electoral Council, eligible to participate in the upcoming elections are: United Democrats (UD), National Alliance (NA), United St. Maarten Party (US Party), St. Maarten Christian Party (SMCP), People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA) and St. Maarten Development Movement (SDM).

  The Council said in view of the postulation date of October 2, parties requesting to be registered at the Electoral Council cannot postulate themselves on October 2, as their application for registration should have been submitted more than six weeks prior to postulation date in accordance with Article 16, paragraph 2 of the National Ordinance on Registration and Finances of Political Parties.

  Equally, any party that lost its reference and wishes to request it at this point, is also excluded from participation in the upcoming snap elections.
