Water from Great Salt Pond was pumped into Great Bay on Friday, turning the canals leading to the sea a mossy, fluorescent green.
The scene repulsed some residents and pedestrians in the area, who questioned whether persons swimming in the area could be contaminated by the released water. This operation is said to usually be done at night, but it is not known why the gates were opened during the day this time.
