PHILIPSBURG--New Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI Angel Meyers is still under investigation for his suspected role in leaking documents at the VROMI Ministry where he was employed previously as Permit Department Head.
Former Minister Claret Connor filed an official complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office citing that Meyers was one of three employees at the Department who allegedly had accessed the document.
The document contained an advice written by Connor while serving as Minister of VROMI. The three persons who had access to the document in the ministry were J. Browne, M. Williams and Angel Meyers.
Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Karola van Nie confirmed to The Daily Herald that the investigation was still ongoing and that the complaint was being studied and investigated by the National Detectives. However, this information did not block Meyers’ appointment to the William Marlin cabinet.
Ministry of VROMI employees were interviewed by investigators on Friday and there are no indications as to how long this investigation will last.
Independent Member of Parliament (MP) Maurice Lake said in a previous press statement: “The person must be held accountable for his/her actions for tarnishing a person’s good name and costing the taxpayers’ money with such an action. This is very dirty politics at play, which is very sad. I have always preached we need to raise the bar and bring politics and governing up to a higher level.”
Meyers was sworn in a week after the William Marlin cabinet was sworn in because of the complaint filed against him at the Prosecutor’s Office, which hampered his appointment due to the extensive screening process done by the island’s secret service.
