The National Detectives fall under the Attorney-General of Curaçao, St. Maarten and the BES Islands. For the office to be more transparent, they have decided to make it known in writing how officers of the National Detectives can be deployed.

The National Detectives handle cases or crimes committed by civil servants, judges and foundations that are fully subsidised by Government. This includes directors of Government-owned companies and politicians. The office is an investigative body with a special task: it focuses on the detection of crimes committed by (semi-) Government officials.

The new measures clearly state that not all crimes committed by these persons can be investigated by the National Detectives, as it would be impossible for the department due to the lack of capacity. The scope of the Landsrecherche is defined, according to the release.

The National Detectives mainly operate in the field of criminal conduct that seriously affects the integrity of justice and the integrity of public administration. This designation refers to the Landsrecherches of countries St. Maarten and Curaçao. Establishing and publishing instructions and guidelines is part of the development of the Prosecutor, making the office a professional and transparent law enforcement partner.
