MPs to talk about status of airport reconstruction

PHILIPSBURG--Members of Parliament (MPs) will talk about the reconstruction status of Princess Juliana International Airport post-Hurricane Irma in a public Central Committee sitting in Parliament House on Thursday starting at 11:00am.

The meeting was originally scheduled for today, Tuesday, at 2:00pm, but was postponed until Thursday. The meeting was requested by Members of Parliament (MPs) Chanel Brownbill, Franklin Meyers and Sidharth “Cookie” Bijlani on November 27, 2017.
The airport was severely damaged by Irma, a category five-plus hurricane that slammed into the island on September 6, 2017. Full reconstruction of the terminal building and other facilities has been hampered by an ongoing dispute with insurance company NAGICO. The matter is expected to be heard by the court soon.
