MPs continue talks on effects of lump-sum subsidy today

PHILIPSBURG--Members of Parliament (MPs) will meet in a public plenary session at 2:00pm today, Tuesday, to continue their discussions with Education Minister Wycliffe Smith on the effects of the lump-sum subsidy on the Foundation for Academic and Vocational Education (FAVE) and the School Board for Secondary Education SVOBE.

The two school boards maintain that lower student numbers, which result in lower subsidies, threaten their financial position and negatively affect quality education in their schools.

The public meeting was adjourned on May 27. Smith will be present for today's session. The meeting was requested by MPs Egbert Doran, Silveria Jacobs and Christophe Emmanuel.

The public can follow the deliberations in person at the House of Parliament located across from the Courthouse in Philipsburg.

The session will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 115, 107.9FM, 98.1FM,
