MP Brownbill detained by anti-corruption team

PHILIPSBURG--United St. Maarten party (USP) Member of Parliament Chanel Brownbill has been detained by authorities on Wednesday morning along with two other suspects in connection with the Emerald investigation.

Brownbill and the other suspects in the case are suspected of forgery and tax evasion. The home of the Member of Parliament in the Sucker Garden district was searched in the presence of an investigative judge.

The French authorities also searched a house in the French Quarter district. Documents, records and digital data carriers among other things were seized. These are all premises the investigators had not previously searched.

In connection with this same investigation a total of seven (7) premises, including the house of the suspect Checkmate Security owner O’Neal Arrindell, the offices of Port St. Maarten and the offices of Checkmate were searched on November 28, 2016. O’Neal’s brother Akeem, a police officer, was arrested this morning in connection with the case.
