POND ISLAND--The next round of classes under the Income Support and Training Project will begin at the end of August, Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin announced on Wednesday.
All unemployed and underemployed residents, who have already been active in the labour market, are encouraged to visit the Labour Office in the Government Administration Building to learn more about participating in this skill-enhancing project.
The Council of Ministers will receive an update today, Thursday, on the progression of activities in the Debris Removal Project, which includes the suppression of underground fires in the area of the landfill.
Several planned actions have already taken place in the past weeks related to the debris and suppression project, including two public consultation sessions that engaged with Spanish- and English-speaking residents of the surrounding areas.
An environmental and social impact assessment of this project will be completed soon and government will be fully apprised as to how this debris removal project will be handled.
The home repair programme, funded by the St. Maarten Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund, is ongoing. National Recovery Program Bureau (NRPB) Director Claret Connor plans to visit some repair sites on Friday to get a first-hand update on the progression of works.
Repair work to a second group of 27 homes will start next week. The plan is to continue working in batches until all the assessed and approved homes have been completed.
Repairs to 109 of Belvedere’s social homes are wrapping up with works on the final units. A second phase will tackle the five residential towers in the neighbourhood.
Phase two repairs to the police stations in Philipsburg and Simpson Bay are progressing well, said Romeo-Marlin.
