Money for shelters

The National Recovery Programme Bureau (NRPB) signed two contracts this week for the repairs and the provision of new equipment to 13 hurricane and recovery shelters.

Repairs consist of replacing windows, doors and shutters. New generators, diesel fuel tanks and underground water tanks will be place at four shelter locations. Contracting firm Confident Construction has already ordered the generators and diesel fuel tanks. The work is slated to commence around August 21 and be completed in about two months. The shelter repairs and equipment are part of the Emergency Recovery Project of the St. Maarten Trust Fund, which is financed by the Dutch government, managed by the World Bank and implemented by NRPB. At the signing were Robert Arrindell of Confident Construction, NRPB Project Manager Piet van Ommeren, Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and NRPB Director Claret Connor. The list of shelters that will be repaired is on www.nrpbsxm.org.
