MARIGOT--The six selected St. Martin/St. Barths contestants will soon start preparing for the pageant to be held in the first weekend of October. The winner will represent the Northern Islands at the Miss France pageant to be staged in Marseilles, France, on December 14.

St. Martin should not be hosting a pageant for a Miss France contestant this year, but Saint-Pierre et Miquelon did not have enough interested candidates. The Miss France Committee stipulates the two territories alternate every year.

The venue for the local pageant has not yet been confirmed.

Entering the pre-selection casting were 12 young ladies, but only six met the strict criteria for the pageant and one dropped out. The final selection was made last week, with photos of the successful contestants appearing on the Miss St. Martin Committee’s Facebook page.

The six contestants are Amandine Gassant (19), Cassandre Martin (20), Florence Blanchard (19), Layla Berry (19), Nayeli Hassel (18), and Tanaya Charles (19).

Martin, incidentally, emerged as this summer’s highest performing student in all of the French Antilles and French Guiana for grades she received in obtaining her Management Accounting degree BTS.

The winner of the October pageant, who will succeed last year’s winner Alisson Georges, will join approximately 30 other contestants from France in Tahiti, where they will all spend one month rehearsing for the big show in France in December.

Miss St. Martin/St. Barths organiser Catherine Vermot de Boisrolin said this week she will be putting a programme in place for various appearances and outings for the contestants.
