Massive fire 'accidentally' caused by incinerator

POND ISLAND--The massive blaze firefighters are trying to beat back was caused "accidentally," according to the Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure VROMI.

"It was caused by an incinerator that accidentally ignited nearby discarded tyres," a ministry spokesman said in response to The Daily Herald's seeking confirmation about the incinerator being the flashpoint of the fire.
The incinerator is said to be very old and poorly located on "Mount Garbage" as the enormous landfill looming over the country is referred to by residents.
Flames caught hold of tyres early afternoon sending plumes of thick black smoke towering into the air and choking closeby and far off residents and visitors.
The blaze is still being battled by the Fire Department.
