Man shot in leg after argument

DUTCH QUARTER--Multiple gunshots echoed throughout Dutch Quarter near Lucky Supermarket where a man landed on the floor bleeding from his leg Thursday evening.

Witnesses said two men had been arguing and one of the men shot the victim and fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.
“Police are still piecing together witness statements and evidence before making a full statement, but I can say that one man was shot in the leg by another man. He was treated on the scene by ambulance personnel and transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) Emergency Room at 6:10pm,” stated police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson.
Residents of the area surrounded the crime scene before police arrived and cordoned off the area allowing forensic officers to work. Police continue to call on the community to keep a cool head and not resort to violence when emotions run high. Henson said police plan to step up controls in effort to get illegal weapons off the streets.
The victim was treated by doctors and detectives plan to interview him to hear from him what took place. He was shot in his upper left leg during the incident.
Witnesses are asked to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation by calling police at 911 or their tip line 9300.
