Man seriously injured in town

PHILIPSBURG--Police Bike Patrols responded to reports of a man being injured at 4:15pm Tuesday. Patrols were directed to Emmaplein in the vicinity of Jump Up Casino to investigate.

  According to police, on-scene the investigating officers encountered the victim, later identified as F.R. (57) who was bleeding profusely from a large wound to his head. The officers also noticed that the victim’s lower left arm was in an awkward position and suspected that it was broken. The Emergency Dispatch was immediately informed of the situation. Paramedics were immediately directed to the scene to provide medical treatment.

  According to reports, the victim was ill-treated by another man who used a metal object. After committing this act, the suspect fled on foot. Witnesses in the area provided police with a description of the suspect.

  During a search in the area, the suspect in question was apprehended by police and taken to the police headquarters in Philipsburg where he remains in custody for further investigation.

  The victim remains in the hospital for further treatment and observation.
