PHILIPSBURG –Rio Productions hosted its seventh annual Lighted Parade on Saturday evening. More than 2000 participants jammed on Philipsburg streets in their custom-made shirt and colourful lights.
Rio Productions President Brenda Wathey said on Monday that Rio is grateful for the support from sponsors and revellers who made the event a success for the seventh year in a row.
The “Lightin’ Up de Road Parade” remains a social and cultural event that truly brings joy to the people. The demand for the parade has grown steadily over the years since the first parade was hosted in 2012, according to Wathey.
She said she will evaluate the month the event is being held, as it usually hosted at the start of April. The event was postponed until August on request of major sponsors who wanted to participate in the event this year.
The Lighted Parade started near the ring road opposite L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium. International acts Destra Garcia and Small Axe Band were complemented by local stars on four musical trailers. Private security kept non-participants away from the trucks while parade-goers enjoyed open bar while partying behind their preferred trucks.
The after party was held at popular restaurant and bar Nowhere Special.
Rio Productions thanked the police for their continued support to keep the streets safe while the parade was ongoing.
