PHILIPSBURG--Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour VSA Emil Lee congratulates the management and staff of Divi Little Bay Beach Resort on the well-attended Job Fair hosted last Saturday.
A total of 260 persons attended the Job Fair, which catered to local workers and persons with residence permits. The resort is scheduled to re-open on May 1 with its current staff of 71, who maintained part-time employment post-Irma, and there is interest in hiring 27 new persons who were selected based on their applications during the Job Fair.
“This is a positive sign. This is a sign that St. Maarten is actually starting to rebound. Clearly not as quickly as we would like but it is a positive indication,” Lee said.
The resort has a 210-room occupancy and is scheduled to re-open in phases, phase one being on May 1 with 87 rooms and phase two in July, with the remaining rooms.
Persons who applied during the job fair, but were not selected for the phase one re-opening will be given priority during the July placement selection rounds. During the Job Fair, vacant positions were presented for clerk, guest service/front desk agents, front desk supervisors, general maintenance, servers, food and beverage supervisors, barista, hostess, housekeeping coordinator, room attendants, laundry attendants and supervisors, and houseman/driver.
“As more establishments are recovering and rebuilding, more job opportunities are becoming available for local job-seekers. These vacancies will be made available via the Labour Department and online via
www.jobopportunity.sx . Persons are encouraged to apply online and attend the organised job fairs and get access to employers who are seeking local workers and those with residence permits,” stated Lee on Wednesday.
