Jamaloodin held in Venezuela

WILLEMSTAD—Former Curaçao Finance Minister for “Movementu Futuro Kòrsou” (MFK) George “Jorge” Jamaloodin was detained in Venezuela on Friday afternoon.

There is no extradition treaty between the two countries, but their law enforcement authorities cooperate on a practical basis. Jamaloodin is suspected of forgery while in function as member of the Schotte Cabinet in the “Bientu” case, in which his half brother, lottery boss Robbie dos Santos was convicted for fraud, tax evasion and money laundering.

Jamaloodin is also suspected of embezzlement involving a piece of land in the “Germanium” case.

He is still listed as suspect in the “Maximus” investigation into the intellectual authors behind the murder of then PS-leader Helmin Magno Wiels. The actual paid killers were already sentenced in the “Magnus” case, but never revealed who was behind the assassination.
