Issues with distribution system cause outages

PHILIPSBURG--Issues with GEBE’s distribution system were said to be the cause of power outages in several districts on Tuesday evening.

Power went off in several areas from around 8:30pm. Affected areas included sections of Philipsburg, Dutch Quarter, Middle Region, Madame Estate, Sucker Garden, and Mount William, amongst other areas.

GEBE media relations officer Paula Gordon said several cables were “out of power,” which resulted in an interruption in power in a number of districts. She said the company’s technicians had been out at two substations to further assess the problem.

Power was restored to several of the affected areas within an hour.
