Police Chief Carl John and his management team are addressing a video released by The Daily Herald on Monday, which is also circulating on social media, regarding the use of excessive force by police officers on St. Maarten in the days immediately after Hurricane Irma.
The police chief said in a statement on Tuesday that management is well aware of this video, which shows police officers beating an alleged looter on September 10. An internal investigation into this incident has been launched. All officers involved and witnesses of this incident are being interviewed. All documents regarding this investigation will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.
