AIRPORT--InterCaribbean Airways began flying a new jet service to St. Maarten as of November 3. The new route is between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and St. Maarten.
A launch event was held at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and was attended by Gregoire Dumel of the St. Martin Tourist Office; InterCaribbean Station Coordinator Johanna de Windt; Pricilla Molina-Halley of Halley Aviation Services; caretaker Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT) Minister Stuart Johnson; St. Martin Tourist Office Director Aida Weinum; and St. Maarten Tourism Bureau Director May-Ling Chun.
The airline will operate an Embraer ERJ145 aircraft on the St. Maarten-Santo Domingo route. It has a flying time of one hour and 30 minutes between St. Maarten and Santo Domingo. The aircraft has a capacity of 50 passengers.
“With this new jet service, not only can travellers between Santo Domingo and St. Maarten enjoy this service, but it opens up a quick [one – Ed.] stop option for St. Maarten to Havana as well as … to Kingston, Jamaica, and to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands,” said the airline in a press release.
