Crowds on the beach at Sandy Ground.
ANGUILLA--August Monday was not the same without the boat races, but scores of people still made their way to Sandy Ground and enjoyed the Caribbean Beach Party filling the beach to eat, drink and mingle and living up to the Summer Festival slogan – “Beach, Boats and Bacchanal.”
This year’s performances included Bunji Garlin, Nadia Batson, Mel, Roxxy, King James, King Vers, Kenyo Baly, King Kembe, Pantha Vibes, Infusion XL, Synergy, DJ Sparta and DJ Stylez at the stage on the north end of the beach.
Dozens of boats from St. Martin/ St. Maarten arrived in Sandy Ground from Sunday evening and all Monday morning to enjoy the party and the entertainers. Food and drink vendors did a busy trade on the beach.
The high wind on Sunday and Monday meant that there were no A-Class boat races; however, the B-Class boats were able to race, as with a shorter mast the wind does not pose such a problem. Nine B-Class boats went out on Monday.
The boat race for the A-Class, from Sandy Ground to Island Harbour, is today, Tuesday. The boats will leave Sandy Ground at 1:30pm. Wind conditions are predicted to be more favourable.
