Healthcare workers network at brunch

Nurses enjoying their meal at the event

PHILIPSBURG--The Nurses-Healthcare workers brunch was held on September 30, with the aim to empower, appreciate and rejuvenate nurses of St. Maarten and neighbouring islands.

The brunch was hosted by Kareem Rombley and featured guest speakers Dr. Kareema Matthews, Dr. Albertine Jurgensen, Allison Williams, Damali Bryson. Nurses in attendance participated in open discussions, a raffle and had the opportunity to network with nurses from the neighbouring islands.

“Globally, nurses care for everyone except themselves. They become quickly burned out daily; whether it’s because of a staff shortage or long working hours,” said organizer Carleen Griffith. “Typically, nurses can become overwhelmed with their workload and lose motivation. Though it is tough, they turn up every day to provide high-quality care.”

Present at this event were nurses, healthcare workers, nursing students and doctors who enjoyed the event whilst being captivated by the view from the residence of Dr. Randall Friday.
