POND ISLAND--Government has contracted the services of United States-based firm Smith Orloff and Associates to help with pending hurricane insurance settlements on its US $134 million policy.
Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin said on Wednesday this was government’s way of pushing for a better pay-out than the US $9 million settlement proposed on the policy by the insurance company to the former government.
It is government’s duty “to fight for more of the people’s money,” the prime minister said. She described the US company as a “qualified public adjustor.”
The insurance pay-out is primarily for repair of government-owned properties.
Government was previously working with Henderson Insurance as its adjustor
