CAY HILL--Government and utilities company GEBE are seeking a temporary solution to the electricity woes of residents living behind the former Cake House Supermarket in Cay Hill after an overload caused a power outage and ignited a fire on an electricity pole Wednesday evening.
The electricity overload was due to illegal “drop cord” connections to the GEBE grid.
Acting Infrastructure VROMI Minister Cornelius de Weever and GEBE management are looking at the installation of low voltage overhead lines in the area. This temporary solution is not ideal, but will be created in the interest of public safety and security for residents, according to a ministry press statement.
GEBE and government urge all residents to refrain from using drop cords to tap into the electricity grid and to refrain from creating unauthorised connections.
