Gaming talks

Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications Stuart Johnson (third right) recently attended the third Dutch Caribbean Gaming and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulation Forum in Aruba. The forum looked at gaming regulation in the context of regional growth, improved transparency, and greater social responsibility, applying international best practices to better enable operators to avoid reputation damage and possible sanction from casino and AML/CFT regulators, as well as recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Topics included the future risk of cyber-crime and crypto-currencies, gaming or gaming: challenges in regulation policy, correspondent banking, de-risking, financial inclusion and the gaming sector. Unlike Curaçao, St. Maarten is still to establish a gaming control board. Johnson is to soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to bring the forum to St. Maarten in 2019 during the sixth annual Caribbean and Americas Gaming Regulation Forum.
