French-side Zika cases rise to 2,165

MARIGOT--Health monitoring agency Institut de Veille Sanitaire (INVS) estimated number of visits to a family doctor by persons who believe they contracted Zika was eighty in the first week of September against ninety five the previous week, marking a decline after the rebound seen in recent weeks according to the latest bulletin. The number of suspected cases remains at a high level.

Since the emergence of the virus, there have been 2,165 “clinically suggestive” cases of Zika seen by doctors in the territory. The infection has also been confirmed in two new pregnant women on the island bringing the cumulative total to 22 pregnant women who contracted Zika during their pregnancy and for which a biological research was prescribed.

Since the emergence of the virus in St. Martin, one neurological complication was reported in April 2016 by a person whose infection by the virus was confirmed biologically.

No deaths have been reported on the island of a patient infected by Zika.
