PHILIPSBURG--Four Members of Parliament (MPs) will represent St. Maarten in the Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultations IPKO in Aruba, January 9-11. There they will join with MPs from Aruba, Curaçao and the Netherlands to discuss topics of kingdom concern.
Topics include Small Islands Developing States, consequences of Hurricane Irma on St. Maarten, situation in Venezuela, sustainable penitentiary institutions, sustainable development goals and sustainable energy. The programme includes working visits to the electricity and water company WEB, Aruba Microalgae Pilot Plan and Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital.
IPKO consultations will conclude on Thursday with a joint press conference of the four delegations and the signing of the agreement list.
Parliament’s Committee of Kingdom Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Chairman MP Perry Geerlings will deliver a presentation titled “Aftermath and effects of Hurricane Irma on St. Maarten” at 11:00am Tuesday. The presentation will focus on the damage caused by Irma as well as the economic, medical, social, financial, political and environmental impact the storm had on St. Maarten.
Attending IPKO along with Geerlings are MPs Tamara Leonard, Rodolphe Samuel and Frans Richardson, Parliament General Secretary Nancy Guishard-Joubert and Parliament advisor attorney Ralph Richardson.
