Flamingo, Royal Palm to reopen June 2020

Government and resort officials on the site visit.

PELICAN--Diamond Resorts' Flamingo and Royal Palm Beach Resorts are expected to reopen after extensive remodelling in June 2020. The timeshare properties were severely impacted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.

The tentative reopening time was shared by resort officials with a government delegation that toured the two properties on Friday. Forming the delegation were Tourism Minister  Stuart Johnson, Minister of Labour Health and Social Affairs Emil Lee, Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever and Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment, Infrastructure Miklos Giterson and St. Maarten Tourist Bureau Director May-Ling Chun.

Johnson visited the two resorts in October last year and met with resort representative Mervin Le Blanc. The resorts were still undergoing hurricane repairs.

Le Blanc showed the delegation the new room designs and gave an update on the rebuilding progress.

With these two resorts and others slated to come online next year, Johnson said in a press statement, "The anticipation for 2020 is that St. Maarten will be experiencing a significant spike in economic activities as the construction of several hotels including Planet Hollywood would be well on the way."

Planet Hollywood resort is to be built on location of the demolished Sonesta Great Bay Beach Resort and Casino.
