ST. EUSTATIUS--The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force KPCN has received several complaints about fake US $100 banknotes in circulation on St. Eustatius. These banknotes have been used for payments at several stores and establishments on the island.

The use of fake currency is prohibited and punishable by law. The Police recommends that everyone check all currency they have accepted and used for authenticity. The currently circulating false banknotes have an inscription that states: “For motion picture use only.”

To combat being a victim of receiving counterfeit bills some businesses have started using countermeasures to protect themselves, such as pens and other tools to detect counterfeit currency.
