Election candidates warned of 9,000-euro fine for illegal posters

MARIGOT--The Préfecture has warned election candidates that unauthorised and random placement of election posters can incur a fine of 9,000 euros (article L.90 of the Electoral Code).

Articles L.581-13 and L.581-30 of the Environment Code also have provisions to protect the environment where publicity is concerned.

Article L.51 of the Electoral Code states that during the election period a specific space (on billboards) is attributed to each candidate. The rules are in place to have a balance between liberty of expression, respect for the environment and equal treatment of each candidate.
