Dozens of vehicles & persons controlled in joint operation

Controls in progress on the RN7 in Bellevue on Tuesday.

MARIGOT--The Gendarmerie in conjunction with Police aux Frontières (PAF) organised a joint control in Bellevue on Tuesday around 8:30am in the presence of the new Chef de Cabinet for St. Martin and St. Barths at the Préfecture, Grégoire Pierre-Dessaux.

Preliminary results indicated 60 vehicles were controlled from both directions and five persons were found by PAF to be residing illegally in the territory. Information about fines was not immediately available.

The control was part of the State’s continuing actions in preventing delinquency. Some five to 10 controls are organised per day at the borders on the request of the Prosecutor and three joint controls per week with the PAF.

The Gendarmerie said the controls will be repeated frequently to identify persons living illegally in the territory and to step up vigilance to thwart armed robberies and delinquency.
