Dominica to send provisions to Sint Maarten

POND ISLAND--A shipment of provisions, plantains and avocados will be sent to St. Maarten from Dominica next week. This news was shared by Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit when he paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister William Marlin on Sunday. Skerrit expressed his government’s willingness to assist with water and non-perishable goods.

Marlin gave Skerrit an overview of the damage caused by monster Hurricane Irma and the recovery efforts.

The Chinese Consul-General, stationed in Curaçao, also paid a visit to Marlin on Sunday. The Consul cut short his vacation to come to St. Maarten to see the damage caused by Hurricane Irma first-hand. He met with some Chinese business people who, according to a release from the Prime Minister, said they will stay here to contribute to the rebuilding.

About 28 Chinese citizens, including several expectant mothers and new-borns, “left the island for a short period,” stated the relief.
