Domestic violence victim remembered

A public domestic violence candlelight vigil was held for the late Natashia Imelda Schmidt at the Dutch Quarter roundabout on Sunday.

The service started after 6:00pm and the event included memorial tributes to honour the mother of seven who lost her life to domestic violence. Family, friends and supporters gathered on the street and condemned any form of domestic violence. Schmidt was shot in her home at Milton Drive 10 in Dutch Quarter on Monday, October 29, 2018, by her brother-in-law. He was later arrested and remains in custody until his trial later this year. Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever and Member of Parliament Dr. Luc Mercelina were some of the public officials who were present during the event.
