PHILIPSBURG--The Health Ministry’s Collective Prevention Services (CPS) and its team managed to visit fourteen neighbourhoods across St. Maarten and stopped by 1,915 homes representing a total of 5,132 residents over the past three weeks.

A total of 36 persons reported having flu-like symptoms. After subsequent follow-ups, a total of 21 had symptoms and were tested; 10 did not have flu-like symptoms, but had other chronic illnesses and were referred to their doctor and five refused to be tested, but agreed to remain in proper isolation.

Over the past weekend the CPS team expanded their outreach to the areas of Belvedere, Bishop Hill and Middle Region. The team will continue the outreach and visit six more neighbourhoods, Chairperson of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs said in a national address on Monday evening.

Jacobs said since the inception of the outreach, there has only been one confirmed case, which was detected during the early stages of the outreach. The public will be notified if any additional cases are discovered.
