Convention signed for crime and delinquency prevention strategy

MARIGOT--The territorial strategy for prevention of crime and delinquency in connection with Contrat Local de Sécurité et de Prévention de la Délinquance (CLSPD) was validated by the signatures of Vice-President Ramona Connor, Préfète Anne Laubies and Vice-Prosecutor Michaël Ohayon on Tuesday, in the presence of the institutions and partners of CLSPD.

The strategy outlines the actions to be taken in the period of 2016 to 2018.

Ramona Connor mentioned the substantial work undertaken by the partners and three work groups of CLSPD on three themes identified some 27 actions to prevent delinquency in targeted areas at a committee meeting on December 7, 2015.

The main objectives of CLSPD are to prevent young delinquents from becoming repeat offenders, preventing violence against women, preventing domestic and inter-family violence, aiding victims, and securing risk areas.

In 2016, the Collectivité will undertake an analysis of local security which will permit it to re-adapt actions in the Territorial Strategy for Delinquency Prevention and Security, and update the needs of the territory.

“The Collectivité will pursue its policy on delinquency prevention in 2016 with the installation of new working groups which will closely monitor potential cells in the neighbourhoods, to be close to the population and provide more effective answers,” said Connor.

Préfète Laubies noted: “The role of CLSPD is part of the State-Collectivité general prevention policy which relies on the partnership of associations that play an important part in relaying information on the ground.”

Prosecutor Ohayon for his part recommended a work of “high quality,” assuring the justice system from now on will be able to rely on the integrity of the actions outlined.

In the prevention policy, foot patrols by gendarmes and Territorial Police have been increased in higher risk areas. Moreover, in 2016, the Urban Security Center CSU that protects the territory by video-surveillance will take possession of 20 more cameras which will be installed in strategic locations.

Connor concluded that this first territorial strategy for delinquency prevention and security will give a boost to the actions of CLSPD, permitting delinquency to be tackled effectively, and at the same time restoring security for the population.
