BEACON HILL--Two construction companies operating at the Alegria Hotel site in Beacon Hill received “hefty fines” after all their workers were found to be undocumented during a control by a multidisciplinary team on Friday, August 9.
A total of 20 undocumented workers who had been service at the two companies were controlled, police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Monday.
“From the control, it was apparent that all workers were working illegally and had no insurance. All workers were registered by the Immigration Mobile Unit and were given the obligation to report to the department on specific dates,” Henson said. “The two construction companies for whom these persons worked were given a hefty fine.”
The control was conducted by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of members of the Police Force’s Mobile Unit; Human Trafficking Unit; Alpha Team; Uniformed Division; Prosecution Service; Coast Guard; and Inspectors from the Ministries of Health, Labour and Social Affairs VSA and Social and Health Insurances SZV.
