Colours assigned, lists numbered for ballot

PHILIPSBURG--The lists of candidates of the six parties contesting the February 26 snap election were numbered by the Central Voting Bureau by the luck of the draw on Friday afternoon.

United Democrats will appear first on the ballot after the number “one.” The party’s name was pulled independently from separate transparent containers by two Bureau members.
Next on the ballot will be St. Maarten Development Movement (SDM) followed by the National Alliance (NA), People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA), United St. Maarten Party (US Party) and St. Maarten Christian Party (SMCP).
All parties requested their preferred background colours in writing to the Bureau at the public hearing held in Parliament House. NA’s request for the colour “white” was granted immediately, as was US Party’s request for “blue,” due to both parties having sitting parliamentarians.
After all colours were requested, the Bureau found no conflicts, paving the way for the assigning of the requested colours.
United Democrats’ official colour is black, SDM grey, PPA orange and SMCP brown.
