Cherida Creebsburg (standing) speaking about the Baha’i Faith.
ST. EUSTATIUS--Member of the Leeward Islands Baha’i community Cherida Creebsburg facilitated an informative meeting on the Faith titled “Let your vision be world embracing…Baha’u’llah” Sunday afternoon at Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute.
Creebsburg said that throughout history, God has sent to humanity a series of divine educators, known in the Baha’i Faith as “Manifestations of God,” whose teachings have provided the basis for the advancement of civilization. These Manifestations have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Mohammed. Baha’u’llah, the latest of these messengers, explained that the religions of the world come from the same source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.
Inspired by the life and teachings of Bahá’u’lláh, Creebsburg said that millions of people worldwide celebrated the 200th anniversary of his birth on October 21 and October 22.
Bahá’u’lláh was born in Tehran, Persia, the present-day Iran, in 1817 and two centuries later, she said, the day of his birth is celebrated around the world alongside the birth of the forerunner of his revelation, the Báb, who was born in 1819 on the day before the birth of Bahá’u’lláh, according to the calendar used in Persia.
These twin holy birthdays are celebrated by Bahá’ís and their friends as one annual festival where the closely interwoven lives and missions of these two “divine luminaries” are remembered together.
All around the world celebrations were held and also in St. Eustatius. Encouraged by the Universal House of Justice, Creebsburg said she organized a birthday celebration for Baha’u’llah with 15 attendees.
“The intention of the event was to share with everyone on Statia that the Baha’i Faith is also present on Statia. The Baha’is are always looking for ways to collaborate with each and every one in their attempt to transform our society with the aim to create a civilization based upon justice and unity with all,” she explained.
Creesburg is in the process of setting up some activities to enhance community building through children’s classes, junior youth empowerment programmes, devotional meetings and study circles.
