Cell phones found in prison medical ward

PHILIPSBURG--Police and prison guards conducted several searches at the Pointe Blanche prison on Friday, April 19. Two cell phones were found in the medical ward where suspended Member of Parliament (MP) Theodore Heyliger is being held.

The phones were confiscated and an investigation has started to find the culprit who used the phones, as six persons are currently staying in the ward.

The prison conducts random searches for contraband. The police are contacted and officers conduct the searches in collaboration with prison guards. The Prosecutor’s Office becomes involved if contraband is found in possession of a particular prisoner.

Officials remain mum about the search and no official statement was sent out by authorities after the search.

Heyliger is currently in 60-day pre-trial detention imposed on him by a judge on February 19 in connection with the Larimar investigation.
