Carty, Williams to run Pointe Blanche prison

PHILIPSBURG--Minister of Justice Raphael Boasman has appointed acting police spokesman Inspector Steven Carty and former prison guard Wilfred Williams to run the day-to-day operations at the Pointe Blanche prison on a short-term basis.

The Minister introduced the two men to the prison staff on Monday. The two law enforcement officials were appointed to take over from Prison Director Edward Rohan, who had been asked to go on an extended leave of absence that started on Monday.

Boasman told the press last week that Rohan had agreed to leave the prison and allow the Minister to normalise the situation there.

The police and Prosecutor’s Office will lend their support to the two-man team if needed.
