ST. EUSTATIUS--On Sunday evening, Caribbean Tribe Troupe was declared the winner of the 2017 Carnival troupe competition.
Four troupes took part in the 53rd Carnival celebration on St. Eustatius: Carnival Survivors headed by Joan Windefelde, The Multi-mix troupe led by Sjudi Redan, Caribbean Tribe led by Julissa Woodley, and Statia Treasurers headed by Teena Lopes.
As part of the competition, the four troupes took to the stage at Carnival Village and performed for the audience.
The Multi-mix troupe was the first to take to the stage. Caribbean Tribe followed after; the longest-running troupe Carnival Survivors then performed, and Statia Treasures were the last to perform.
Caribbean Tribe won the titles of most original and most colourful troupe. Carnival Survivors took first place in the most creative section.
Statia Treasures did not take part in the competition. They participated in the parade for fun and excitement.

During Sunday’s Carnival Parade, a pedestrian was injured when a scooter struck her. An ambulance came and took the lady to Queen Beatrix Medical Centre.
During the parade, Telecommunications Company EUTEL NV gave out T-shirt, glow sticks, wraps, sun visors, caps, bags and double top-up. They also raffled a phone.
Winston Fleming of St. Eustatius Musical Foundation thanked Earline Gibbs, Lenore McDonald and her children, and all who contributed to the Carnival Parade.
