Book on slave revolt

Aruba-born US Marine veteran Dunbar Campbell (right) presented his third novel “Winds of Fédon” during a book event at Chesterfields restaurant on Saturday.

The historical novel is based on the true story of slave-master Julien Fédon, who led a slave revolt in Grenada in 1795. The rebellion lasted 16 months, during which 7,000 died. Fédon himself mysteriously vanished, and to this day historians still speculate what happened to him. Campbell was born in Aruba but grew up in Grenada. Today, he is a writer, research director, public speaker and a regular visitor to St. Maarten. (Annemiek van Kerkhof photo)
