Bass man Nacio Richardson passes away on Wednesday

Ignacio “Nacio” Richardson

PHILIPSBURG--Musician, bass player and singer of blues, rock and jazz Ignacio “Nacio” Richardson passed away Wednesday evening, July 10, after a long battle with cancer he could not win.

Born in Aruba in 1955, “bass man” Richardson played with many bands in St. Maarten for the past 30 years. He also played with soca bands for Carnival, both in St. Maarten and Aruba.

Friends of Richardson organised a “Show The Love” concert in his honour at Snoopy’s Bar in Cole Bay on June 23. The show, a brainchild of guitarist Ronnie Santana, featured a reunion of two bands: “The House of Blues and More” with Urmain “Youmay” Dormoy and “Soul Dressing,” followed by a jam session in which many local musical icons participated.

It was said that Richardson could play with any musician and he inspired many young artistes. With Richardson’s passing St. Maarten has lost not only a great musician but also a man with a big heart.
